As I said, there is much more to Las Vegas than gambling and partying, but that doesn’t mean we skipped that part of it! We hit the Las Vegas Strip and Fremont Street while in the area.
Las Vegas Blvd (The Strip)
Meandering Life Rating: (4 / 5)
The best tip I can give you about the Strip is wear your walking shoes! These casinos and hotels are HUGE and it takes quite a bit of time and mileage to get around them. They do have shuttle and bus services, but we didn’t use those as we wanted to get the exercise and are always looking to save money. Speaking of money savings, most of the hotels charge for parking, but the Venetian is still free and is in a decent spot on the strip. If you are not staying at a hotel on the Strip, I would recommend parking there.
Most of the casinos and hotels on the strip are themed and they do not skimp on the details. The lobbies, the casino, the shops all tie to the theme and are all ornate, grandiose and jaw-dropping. My favorite outside view of the hotel is the New York, New York that replicates the New York City skyline. Amazing! You also can’t miss the Bellagio and the dancing fountains. The first day we were there it was too windy for the fountains to run, so we went back for it. Worth seeing it day or night. The Bellagio also has the amazing conservatory with sculptures made of fresh flowers. The theme when we were there was Chinese New Year, the year of the dog. I could go on and on, but you really must see it to believe it!
Fremont Street (Downtown)

Love Fremont Street! It just has an old school vibe to it. It screams Vegas! Fremont Street has the neon signs, the street performers and everything typical “Vegas”. It is also home to the Fremont Street Experience. This a dome of lights above the street that plays a light and music show that runs every hour starting around dusk time. When the show plays, people stop in the street and look up in awe. A must see for sure! You see all kinds of street “performers” on this street as well. Anything from people dressed up as characters to rock bands, painters to dancers and of course there are half-naked women in the mix. They line the streets in search of the all mighty tourist dollar. We saw an awesome Jack Sparrow look alike, Mickey & Minnie Mouse, a rock band and some dancers just to name a few. Didn’t get any pictures because they want money for that! It’s hard to describe, but there is a “fun” vibe to the whole area and you can’t help but smile and be happy walking up and down Fremont Street.
